ERBIL — An Iraqi court on Monday sentenced a former minister to 21 years in jail after he was found guilty in multiple cases of corruption.
Abdel Falah al-Sudani had served as trade minister between 2006 and 2009.
The court first sentenced him to two seven-year imprisonment for “negligence”. He was additionally sentenced to seven years in jail for misconduct.
Sudani holds a British citizenship.
He was arrested last year at Beirut’s international airport, and was handed over to Iraqi authorities by Interpol earlier in January this year.
He still faces trials in six other cases.
